Where to do your Monaco Christmas Shopping

The sun is shining in the cornflower blue sky above the Principality, but snow-laden trees have appeared near the Monte Carlo Casino, a reminder that it’s time to do some Monaco Christmas shopping.

The luxury boutiques and pavilions near the Monte Carlo Casino are an obvious Monaco shopping destination for anyone on a mission to enhance a loved one’s wardrobe this Christmas. But a multitude of other gift ideas awaits you in Monaco.

Monaco Christmas Market

From 7 December 2018 to 6 January 2019, Monaco’s dazzling Christmas market will once again take up residence beside the yachts in Port Hercules. This winter wonderland lined with chalets should enable you to cross a few items off your Christmas shopping list. Among the churros, oysters and other festive fare, you’ll find jewellery, organic tea, toys and handicrafts.

The Metropole Shopping Centre

A few steps away from the Monte Carlo Casino, the Metropole shopping centre makes Monaco shopping easy. It hosts boutiques and retail outlets – including a FNAC – where you are sure to find gifts to suit everyone. Here are some that are well worth a visit.

Comtesse du Barry is the place to go if you’re looking for a gift for a gourmet. The story of Comtesse du Barry dates back to 1908, when a French couple – Joseph and Gabrielle du Barry – embarked on a mission to make the best foie gras in the world. Over the years, the company has grown, expanded its offering and won several awards. In the shop in the Metropole, you’ll discover chocolates made in Monaco, an exquisite selection of champagne and wine, gift boxes of olive oil or biscuits, caviar and, of course, foie gras.

Vilebrequin is famous for its upmarket swimwear. If you’re on a hunt for a useful and aesthetic gift for a man, the Monaco boutique has an impressive collection of swim shorts. Customers are greeted by the sight of a rainbow of around 70 different neatly folded, colour-sorted swimwear. The vast choice of patterns and motifs ranges from koalas and water-turtles to ski-scene prints. All the shorts are made from robust, quick-dry polyamide and lined with a comfortable, hypoallergenic mesh.

Ladurée has long delighted lovers of all things sweet with its colourful and tasty macarons. Not to be confused with macaroons, which are coconut-based, macarons are two round almond meringue cookies with a creamy filling between them. Ladurée’s Monaco outlet sells gift boxes of macarons in various sizes. The smallest contains six, the biggest, 40.

Giovanni Raspini is a Tuscan brand that crafts hand-hammered silver and gilded silver jewellery as well as decorative items. The Monaco boutique mainly sells jewellery for men, women and children. If you’re looking for a gift for someone who likes stand-out, contemporary pieces, Giovanni Raspini’s intricate designs will be appreciated. The brand also offers hundreds of very affordable silver charms, which can be bought with or without chains. The many themes of the charm collections, which include ‘sea’, ‘animals’, ‘around the world’ ‘professions’ and ‘fashion’, allow you to give a very personal gift to someone special. On request, staff at the boutique will transform the charms into earrings.

Segraeti sells an array of stylish, beautifully crafted decorative items and scented candles. These treasures are displayed in a mellow, low-lit ambiance that makes Christmas shopping there almost relaxing. You’ll find highly original lamps, photo frames, ashtrays and lanterns, as well as tableware that will transform every mealtime into a special occasion. This Monaco Christmas, Segraeti is also presenting gift ideas in a pop-up chalet behind the casino. Look out for umbrellas and shoe-horns studded with Swarovski crystals, and brightly-coloured shaggy cushions.
