The Pacific Galleries Shopping Mall is the most successful in the city of Buenos Aires. It is located at the intersection of Florida Street and Córdoba Avenue occupying 11.000 square meters. The shopping trip was born in the late nineteenth century on the initiative of the Bon Marché department store in Paris, inspired by the great European galleries. Though its story was based, among others, on the English Railway Company and Harrod’s, it then finally became the luxury shopping center we know today.
Currently more than 160 shops of national and international brands of luxury are gathered there and its varied cuisine makes thousands of people visit daily. Borges Cultural Center dedicated to the promotion of art, has its offices in the Galleries. Usually concerts are organized in the space under the central dome.
Its architectural and artistic beauty was revamped with the central dome paintings made by Berni, Castagnino Colmeiro, Spilimbergo and Urruchúa in 1945. Its 450 square meter situations were embodied with cultural practices and allegories values. Its streets intersecting with their glass domes and the famous murals of its large central dome have allowed it to be declared a National Historic Landmark.
You can take one of the guided tours offered for free at the shopping center for the building to know the history of the place. The quote is from Monday to Friday in the Central Dome, at 11:30 and 16:30. You must request the headphones on the Information Desk of the ground floor where they are available in several languages. Pacific Galleries is open from Monday to Sunday.
