Around 15 kilometers of golden sand link Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo of South Caribbean Costa Rica and you’re in the Talamanca mountain range with its mysterious mountains, valleys and Indian reservations. Its inhabitants still retain much of their culture, beliefs, language and traditions in deep harmony with nature. Mainly I refer to the Bribri and Kekoldi reserves. Companies that organize excursions take you closer to nature around you where you will see waterfalls, forests, coral reefs, or cycling trips, quad biking, horseback riding, canopy, snorkeling and boating. In this way you will feel the adventure of discovering the depths of these almost untouched places.
At about 19 kilometers north there’s the beautiful coastal town of Cahuita with the Cahuita National Park which from the coast juts into the sea where there are coral reefs. It is definitely worth a visit. Further north is the city of Limón and further north the famous Tortuguero National Park. Inland and about 15 kilometers away you will find the town of Bribri, administrative center of the area and on the way to the Bribri Reserve.
Also within walking distance you’ll pass Sixaola which borders with Panama and where you can make very attractive small trips in boats heading down into that country and visiting the surrounding areas of Costa Rica. From the adventure travel agency in Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo are excursions of all kinds to these places plus to Bocas de Toro, cozy and lush islands and in Panama where you can do whitewater rafting in the area.
