The festive period to Edinburgh will open on November 29 and will continue until January 6th. During this period the center of Princes Street will be full of lights but the whole town will be involved from the festivities with Christmas lights, Christmas markets, the garden of Santa’s reindeer, the great wheel of Edinburgh and the Scottish Christmas Santas race.
The start of Christmas will be on the 29th November starting at 10 am with the lighting of the Ferris wheel and markets (the full list) where you can buy gifts and decorations. The first light will come on at 17:00 in the main streets. In the evening, there will be a parade with the arrival of a giant Santa Claus at The Mound, while later in St Andrew Square will start a show.
The events will continue in the days following the arrival of Santa Claus, reindeer, concerts, and celebrations of the nativity will begin. On December the 9th , there will be the traditional Scottish Santas race in West Princes Street Gardens. The 30th of November, however, will be celebrated on St Andrew’s Day, with traditional festivities at the castle.
