From the isolated communities of the Amish in the USA and the very old villages of Myanmar built into lake as the fortified village of Dracula, every step is a journey and at times have long since passed. But not for their residents.
Lake Inle, Myanmar
At an altitude of about 900 m is Lake Inle and has many villages, most of which are built on the lake with bamboo houses on stilts. Residents of the Intha tribe cultivate small areas of land to ensure they are always above the water level, fish in the traditional way and live as their ancestors did centuries ago.
Little has changed in the isolated community of Amish in the 18th century when the first Swiss and Germans immigrated to the U.S. The Amish follow the Bible literally, themselves produce everything from food and clothing to their furniture while rejecting technology. In communities where there is little electricity and instead of cars will only see horse drawn carriages.
The city was once the stronghold of the Wild West, to where the legendary duel with weapons in OK Corral in 1881 between rival gangs. The historic neighborhood of the city is one of the most well preserved cities of erstwhile Wild West and takes you to the era roamed cowboy and illegal.
