Los Cayos are islands located between the mainland and the reef in Belize along with the atolls and reef, they are the main attractions of this place. The Reef stretches over 185 miles and is the largest in the eastern hemisphere. The mangrove cays provide an ideal habitat for birds and marine life. Many fish, shellfish, marine organisms and birds begin their lives under the protection of mangroves such as turtles.
Normally they are not inhabited by people. These islands, which are distinguished by palm trees are the basis for the development of many resources for aquatic athletes. It is ideal for scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing and boating.
Ambergris Caye, better known as San Pedro, is a hot island near Belize City with blue water and selected range of hotels. It is the largest island and the one with the most visitors. The other islands are also well equipped for tourists and for water sports the optimal choices are Caye Caulker, Glover’s Reef, Tobacco Caye, South Water Caye and Lighthouse Reef Atoll.
