One of the most famous London attractions is undoubtedly the seat of the British monarchy, Buckingham Palace at Westminster. This trip can be perfect for families that have teenage kids. The impressive building is located near the St. James Park in London and was built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham, Sheffield. In 1761 it was bought by the then King of England George the Third. During the reign of George IV the building received several changes since there were added new wings in order to organize there the kings official receptions.
Later there was added a new wing on the east side of the palace. Only when ascended the throne the Queen Victoria in 1837 the Buckingham Palace became the official royal residence. One can argue that it is the most impressive palace in Europe, but the dazzling interiors decorated with unique artwork are those that impress. The palaces have 775 rooms, of which 19 are function rooms, 52 royal rooms and guest rooms, 188 staff rooms, and feature and 78 bathrooms.
The largest room is the ballroom, which was made for banquets and events. The official halls adorn treasures of world art, such as works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dyck, and Watteau. Queen Elizabeth II has reserved 12 rooms for her, giving visitors the opportunity to tour the biggest part of the palace during scheduled tours.
