Christmas Holidays in Narni, Umbria

A good idea for Christmas and the New Year is to make a trip to Umbria, a region that during the winter reserves a warm welcome for travelers with a variety of solutions for comfortable and exciting events to attend. I picked up a little tip on a destination steeped in legend and full of stories to tell, the medieval Narni. Deciding to stay in Narni is a smart move for next Christmas because there is an ongoing series of events called Christmas in Narni and because in this village there is a lot to see.

First of all remember that the ancient Latin name of the city is Narnia, a name that has inspired the writer CS Lewis in the creation of the series The Chronicles of Narnia in which the author imagines a world in which animals have the ability to talk, magic is common among men and the Good in a constant struggle against evil. The novels were even turned into a successful series of films.

To get a taste visit the Rocca Albornoz which today is a Medieval Park. Here you can take a journey through time and discover what life was like in the past accompanied by minstrels, knights and falconers that enliven the park. You can experience the thrill of archery and taste of the dishes in the medieval style of menu that is prepared according to the specific local gastronomic traditions.

Among the upcoming events you should certainly not miss the Christmas Concert on December 25th at 18:00 with free admission: gospel music to celebrate the holidays with your loved ones. On 1 January 2013 the best way to start the new year in Narni is planning a concert performed by the City of Narni Philharmonic at the Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Manini which is free and ideal for a holiday full of emotions and colors.

If you like guided tours to places normally inaccessible Narni Underground is just the place for you. The association organizes tours in the basement of the city from the convent of San Domenico where you can admire the oldest frescoes in the city. Thanks to archaeological excavations a crypt of the twelfth century was discovered, one of the treasures to be seen during the visit which I recommend to book. Attention because on December 25 the association based at the Gardens of San Bernardo will be closed. To take advantage of these events and spend a relaxing holiday we suggest staying in a historic house in Narni near the historic center and in harmony with the castles, the fortress and the others from the Middle Ages that survive in this romantic village.
